10th Annual Ike Moler Memorial at MRP

8-19-16 - Williamsburg, OH - A strong field of cars were on hand in all divisions for the 10th Annual Victor “Ike” Moler Memorial race at MRP! In late model qualifications it was Grayson, Ky's Jackie Boggs setting quick time with a 12.740 lap in his McCoy Bros Logging, Quest Energy sponsored machine. Heat race #1 would see Boggs battle with Columbus, Indiana's Devin Gilpin as the veteran would take the win over the youngster. Heat race #2 would see Berlin, Illinois driver Brandon Sheppard take the win over Wheelersburg, Oh's Rod Conley. Heat #3 would see Wheelersburg's RJ Conley take the win over Lawrenceburg, Ind’s Jason Jameson. In the B-main event it was Bunbury, Australia's Paul Stubber taking the win over Bethel, Ohio's Chris Shannon.

In the 50 lap main event it was Boggs to the lead early but by lap 3 it was Boggs, Gilpin, Sheppard, and Jameson all battling 2-3 wide up front and it was evident that something was going to have to give. A caution on lap #7 for the spinning machine of Jeff Alsip would slow the field. And on the restart Sheppard would waste no time in taking the lead from Boggs and pulling away out front. As that happened it was Jameson charging into second position following a lap 10 caution for Michael Hildebrand. For the next 25 laps it would be Sheppard and Jameson out front setting a torrid pace on the field. While those two were out front it was Gilpin and Boggs trading sliders for 3rd position while Devin Moran would charge from his 21st starting position into a top five spot. On lap 38 Jameson would make the pass on Sheppard for the lead but on the following lap he would make contact with the turn 4 wall bringing out a caution and ending his night. On the restart it was all Brandon Sheppard as he would go on to claim his first ever win at Moler Raceway Park in his first ever visit to the speedway which he likened to “the bullrings back home in Illinois” that he grew up on. The Best Performance, Corey Frazier State Farm Insurance, Keysor Mfg, Valvoline sponsored Rocket Chassis of Sheppard would roll into victory lane and claim the top prize while Devin Gilpin would come home in second spot ahead of Boggs who would come home in 3rd. Devin Moran would finish 4th, Duane Chamberlain 5th, RJ Conley 6th, Rod Conley 7th, John Whitney 8th, Joe Brewer 9th and Chad Stapleton completing the top ten positions.

The Matt's Graphic UMP Modifieds would see a classic battle in the feature event as Devin Gilpin and Matt Hamilton would battle throughout the entire 20 lap feature event with the outcome in doubt until the final 100 yards. At the start of the feature it was Gilpin jumping to the early lead but Hamilton would waste no time getting into second and pressuring the multi-time UMP National Champion. Gilpin would start pulling away through the middle of the race but by lap fifteen Hamilton would close the gap as they battled through traffic. The caution would wave with 5 laps remaining and on the restart the two modified aces would trade the lead multiple times with big slide jobs being performed by each. At the checkered it was Matt Hamilton in his Lt's Place, Yesco, House Racing Engines, Sign-a-rama sponsored machine. Gilpin would come home in second with Jimmy Lennex, Weasel Rhoades, and Dave Jamison completing the top five positions. Jamison, Brandon Ramsey, and Hamilton were heat race winners while Steve Clemmons was victorious in the B-main event.

The Tarvin Auto Service Freedom 4's would see Dustyn Fisher claim the feature win after Chris Vance would make contact with a lap car resulting in a flat tire with 2 laps remaining. The driver out of Cincinnati would take his second career win after struggling much of the 2016 race season. Johnny Jump would claim a career best second place finish over Josh Davis, Mark Horn, and Nathan Ball. Davis and Vance were heat race winners.

In the Diamond Cut Lawn Care Sport Mods it was Jamey Adams of Laurelville, OH claiming the feature win over Steve Nobile in his Lightning Chassis, Helterbran Trucking sponsored machine. Donnie Morgan would come home in 3rd spot with Tony Seibert and Jowana Shelton completing the top five positions. Both Adams and Noble were victorious in heat race action.

The final event of the night would see the DRC Crazy Compacts in the final tune-up event before the King of Compacts race. With 27 cars on hand drivers would have to race their way into the feature event and it was Steven Hoffman, Dalton Smith, and Josh Hammond winning the preliminary races while “King Chris” Shelton Sr. would win the B-main event. In the feature event it was Hammond jumping into the lead early from his 3rd starting spot and leading the final 19 laps to claim his second consecutive victory in his Finn Fabrication sponsored machine. Jerry Gibson III would charge to a second place feature finish after starting in 15th position while Kevin Stamper, Steven Hoffman, and Brad Hoskins would complete the top five running order.

The Moler Family would like to thank everyone for their support for these first 10 years! Up next is King of Compacts on August 26th (All Classes) and Go Karts on August 27th! www.molerracewaypark.com
