MRP kicks off Father’s Day Weekend with
Action-Packed Racing and Mechanics Races
6-17-16 - Williamsburg, OH - Moler Raceway
Park kicked off Father's Day weekend with a
night of action-packed racing along with
mechanics races at intermission.
Mechanics Race Winners were as follows:
Late Models - Randy Wash; Modifieds Tommy
Pribble and Crazy Compacts Bobby Stamper.
The Late Model Division was the first on the
track and it was Mike Meyers of
Fayetteville, Ohio winning heat #1 over
Edinburgh, Ind Chad Stapleton while
Richmond, Indiana's Duane Chamberlain would
win the second heat race over Clarksville,
Ohio's John Whitney. In the feature event
they would go 4 wide for the lead at the
green flag for the first ¾ of a lap with 5th place
starter Joe Godsey jumping to the lead on
lap #1. Godsey would lead with Chamberlain
in a close second spot. By lap 4 Chamberlain
would take the lead but a caution flag would
wave and return Godsey to the top spot. On
the restart it was again Godsey out front
but the battle was behind him as Chamberlain
and Stapleton would race side by side for
second position before contact on lap 8
would see Stapleton drop to 5th position.
The driver from Edinburgh, Ind would put his
Club 29 racecar on the top side of the track
and start coming forward. As Godsey took the
white flag Stapleton flew past on the
outside to take over the top spot and cruise
to the win in his Sub Surface of Indiana, 31
Auto Group, Right Way Construction, Rogers
Bar sponsored machine. Godsey would come
home in second with Joe Brewer, Mike Meyers,
and Alan Magner completing the top five
A field of 13 Diamond Cut Lawn Care Sport
Mods would take to the track next and it was
last week's feature winner Mitchell Fields
Jr taking the early lead. Chris Shelton Jr.
would pressure Fields for the top spot
throughout the first half of the race but
Fields would hold him off and claim his
second win on the season in his Fields
Garage, Thoroughbred Insulation, Hypac
Cylinder & Hose Repair sponsored machine.
Tony Seibert would pass Shelton for second
spot with Shelton holding on for 3rd over
Daryl Phelps and Nick Phillips. D. Phelps
and Fields were heat race winners.
The DRC.net Crazy Compacts would see 19 cars
on hand and it was Kevin Stamper and Jerry
Gibson III taking heat race wins. In the
feature it was Gibson out front with Stamper
on his rear bumper. Stamper would take the
lead on lap 9 and lead the next 5 laps
before a caution would wave. On the 2 lap
shootout to end the race Gibson was able to
get past Stamper and retake the lead and go
on to his 2nd win
in a row in his Gibson Motorsports, Matt
Murrell owned machine. Chris Shelton Sr
would get past Stamper for second position
with Stamper, Nick Barrett and Peter Ripato
completing the top five running order.
The Tarvin Auto Service Freedom 4's would
see Josh Davis jump to the lead on lap 2
from his 3rdstarting
spot with Alanah Weiss on his bumper.
Following a restart on lap 5 it was Chris
Vance to the lead with Weiss in second spot.
As the race went on Vance would continue to
pull away to win his 3rd race
of the season in the Rusty Yarger owned,
Northwest Transmission, Wilson Body Shop
sponsored machine. Weiss would come home in
second spot with Davis, Mike Clark, and
Johnny Jump completing the top five running
order. Kyle Tarvin was victorious in the
heat race event. Dustyn Fisher got the
Hard Luck Award sponsored by Ed Kier, a fan
in the stands.
The final event of the night the Matt’s
Graphics UMP Modifieds would see 2-time
defending track champion Adam Stricker jump
to the lead from his outside row 1 starting
spot. Larry Pickelheimer Jr would run in
second with Weasel Rhoades a close third. A
lap 8 restart would see Stricker drive away
in his Stricker Auto Parts, PSE Archery
sponsored machine and claim his first
victory of the 2016 race season.
Pickelheimer would come home in second spot
with Rhoades, Dave McWilliams (docked 2
spots for jumping final restart) and Jimmy
Haager completing the top five spots.
Pickelheimer and Stricker were heat race
American Modified Series returns to MRP for
a $1500 to Win show in the Matt’s Graphics
UMP Modified division, along with Late
Models, TheDRC Crazy Compacts, Tarvin Auto
Service Freedom 4’s and Diamond Cut Lawn
Care Sport Mods.
