Bilstein Shocks Party in the Park - a Huge Success!

 

6-10-16 - Williamsburg, OH - Bilstein Shocks Party in the Park was a huge success with high car counts in all classes and lots of new competitors! In the Late Model division with 22 cars on hand it was newcomers Tommy Bailey of Corbin,Ky and Isom,Ky’s Stephen Breeding winning the first 2 heats with the 3rd and final heat being won by Versailles, Ind driver Bill Sheets. Sardinia, Ohio’s Blake Naylor would win his first late model event by claiming the win in the B-main event.

In the feature it was Bailey out front for the first 5 laps before Chad Stapleton would charge from his 7th starting spot to take the lead. The top five cars would race 2-3 wide for the next 7 laps before a caution for Graylin Prince would slow the field. On the restart Stapleton would lead but 8th starting John Whitney and 4th place starter Jeremy Hines would run side by side for second spot before Whitney would not only take over control of second but he would pass Stapleton on lap 23 and sail away through traffic to win his second consecutive feature event at Moler in his Stephan’s Heating & Cooling, Tom & Jerri Adams sponsored machine. Stapleton would come home in second spot with Joe Godsey, Jeremy Hines, and Bailey completing the top five running order.

A strong field of 31 UMP Modifieds were on hand, including the Top Three UMP Point leaders in the Country. In heat race action it was Ironton, Ohio’s Brian Skaggs winning the first heat race over Pete Holt. In heat race #2 it was Mooresville, NC driver Billy Workman Jr taking the win over Jamie Lomax of Lake Village, Indiana. In the 3rd and final heat race it was Melvin, Ky driver Jody Puckett taking the win over Kewanee, Ill driver Ray Bollinger (started 9th). In the B-main event it was Bill Haager taking the win.

In what might be one of the best modified races ever at MRP it was Workman jumping to an early lead but by lap 2 it was Lomax taking over the top spot from his 5th starting spot. The top five cars would run 2-3 wide throughout the early stages of the race. By the midpoint of the race cars were all running on the bottom half of the track but following a lap 17 restart it was Workman jumping to the high side and retaking the lead with Ray Bollinger right on his bumper. Lomax wouldn’t go away easily as he and Travis Dickson continued to work the bottom and middle of the track. At the end though it was Billy Workman Jr., in the Hornaday Racecar, Tomcat, Phil Bond Construction machine of Workman taking the win in his first ever visit to the speedway, making the drive from North Carolina worthwhile! Bollinger would come home a close second with Jamie Lomax, Travis Dickson, and John Holt Jr. completing the top five spots.

The DRC.net Crazy Compacts would see 25 cars on hand battling for the $400 to win paycheck. In heat races it was Ashley Logan, Dalton Smith, and Brandon Gibson Jr. taking the wins while Kevin Stamper would take the win in the B-main event. In the feature it was Smith out front but by lap #4 it was Jerry Gibson III racing side-by-side with for the next 6 laps before the caution would wave. Gibson was ahead at the line and would have control of the top spot with 5 laps remaining and would hold on to claim the win in his Matt Murrell owned Gibson Motorsports sponsored machine. Smith would come home in second with Brandon Gibson Jr, Josh Hammond, and Brandon Stephens completing the top five spots.

The Tarvin Auto Service Freedom 4’s would see an old veteran Miles Tarvin parking in victory lane at the end of the night after an early battle with Sean Jones for the top spot Tarvin would take control for good on lap 7 and claim his first victory of the 2016 race season. Jones would come home in second spot with Josh Davis, Alanah Weiss (after being docked 2 spots for jumping the final restart), and Kyle Tarvin completing the top five spots.

The final division of the night would see the Diamond Cut Lawn Care Sport Mods in action and it was Wallingford,Ky’s Mitchell Fields taking the win in his first visit of 2016. The Fields Garage, River Rat Logging, Fannin Trucking, NAPA sponsored machine would take the win over a hard charging Andy Trout. Derek Richmond was third with Cody Gifford, and Casey Phelps completing the top five spots.
