Wild and Crazy Fan Night at MRP with Three First Time Winners in Victory Lane!


5-6-16 - Williamsburg, OH - A field of 20 late models were on hand at Moler Raceway Park for the first of 2 Fan Appreciation nights at the speedway. The night also brought several first-time winners at MRP to Victory Lane, Nick Latham in Late Models, Pete Holt in Matt’s Graphics UMP Modifieds and Chris Vance in Tarvin Auto Service Freedom 4’s.


In Late Model heat race action it was Flemingsburg, Ky's Roger Ruark winning the first heat over Winchester, Ohio's Nick Latham. In the second heat it was Edinburgh, Indiana's Chad Stapleton taking the win over Milan, Indiana's Bill Sheets.


In the feature it was Ruark leading the first lap but he would spin in front of the field in turn #2 bringing out the first of many cautions in the 25 lap event. Latham would take over the top spot in his Carpet Outlet, Showcase Cattle Co, Oilworks, JP Young Trucking, Kellog Farms sponsored machine. Despite numerous challenges from Sheets and then Stapleton, Latham would cruise to his first ever feature win at MRP in his Club 29 Chassis. John Whitney would make a late charge and take over second position but had nothing for Latham and would have to settle for second spot. Stapleton, Cody Evans, and Joe Brewer would complete the top 5 running order.


The Matt's Graphic UMP Modifieds were the next class of cars up and there were 24 cars on hand which meant drivers would have to race their way into the feature event. Heat #1 was a wild one as Weasel Rhoades and Dean Boyd would trade the lead 4 times in the last 5 laps before the checker would wave with Rhoades taking the win. In heat #2 it was all Mike Meyers as the Fayetteville, Ohio driver would take the win in his Spider Chassis over Pete Holt. In the final heat it was all Jimmy Lennex Jr as the Maysville, Ky driver would claim the win in convincing style over Dave McWilliams. Even the 12 lap B-main event was exciting as Georgetown, Ohio's Jim Hunt would have his best race in a couple of years charging to the lead and nearly claiming his first ever win. On the last lap though it was Matt Watson overtaking Hunt and claiming the victory.


In the feature event at the green it was Rhoades, Lennex, and Boyd out front battling 3 wide for the lead but by lap 7 it was 5th place starter Pete Holt who would take the lead from Lennex and the driver from Independence, Ky would have his best ever run at MRP by holding on and claiming his first ever win at the ¼ mile speedway. The John's Auto Body, Brown's transmission, Hardcore Decals sponsored Bandit Racecar machine would slowly pull away from Dave McWilliams at the end of the 20 laps. McWilliams would take second over Lennex, John Holt (started 12th) and David Smith.


The Diamond Cut Lawn Care Sport Mod division would see 9 cars on hand and at end of the night it was Williamsburg, Ohio's Tony Seibert claiming his 2nd career win in his brand new Diamond racecar with sponsorship from AJ Strassinger Trucking, Finish Line Performance, Huck's Machine Shop, Wag's Race Engines. Andy Trout would come home in second spot with Derek Richmond, Cody Gifford, and Bethany Moler completing the top five spots. Brianna Robinson was the winner of the heat race.


The Tarvin Auto Service Freedom 4's would see Chris Vance behind the wheel of Rusty Yarger's #22 machine and Chris would put the Northwest Transmission, Wilson Body Shop. K&K race Engines sponsored machine in victory lane following an early battle with heat race winner Mike Clark. This was also Chris’ first time in Victory Lane at MRP! Josh Davis would come home in 2nd spot with Clark, Alanah Weiss, and Kyle Tarvin rounding out the top five spots.


In the final division of the night it was the DRC.net Crazy Compacts and there were 19 cars on hand looking to take the checkered flag. In heat race action it was Kevin Stamper and Dalton Smith claiming the wins and setting the lineup for the feature event. In the feature it was Smith out front with Stamper and Jerry Gibson III in pursuit. By lap #4 Smith would begin slowing and Stamper would take over the top spot and set sail to his first win of the 2016 race season. Gibson III would come home in second spot with Clyde Pack, Brandon Stephens, and Denny Martini completing the top five spots.


At intermission everyone hit the front stretch and fans got to meet and greet their favorite drivers, check out their cars, get autographs, candy, t-shirts, etc., always a Great Night at MRP!  Next Fan Appreciation Night is scheduled for July 15th!
